Gary Dominates Pepsi 400

First off I would like to say how sorry I am that my teammates had their race end like it did. I really think that 95% of the time the shop at Caldwell MotorSports gives its three drivers equipment that is capable of winning but at todays race they might have missed it a little. I was really happy with the speed I could get out of my #82 Margaritaville Chevy Monte Carlo but the handling could have been better. It seemed like I was driving on ice being loose and tight at the same time, but that could be due to the new surface of the track. I really feel like I had a lot of help on the track because for the most part cars would stick to my rear bumper and we could charge to the front.

I would like to thank my teammates for their support and help with spotting and strategy after their early misfortune. Well I guess I should start with telling Gary that I am proud of his race and amazed at the way he was able to keep his car under control with the way the track was. He definately deserved the win. Now on the other hand my car from the start of the race seemed to be only running on 7 cylinders and might have been able to finish if I had not got caught up in the wreck on Lap 12 that really hurt any thought of finishing this race and I think the 58 also had engine problems from the start and all we could do was hope for a good finish for the 82.

We spoke to Todd Caldwell as he was climbing down off of Gary’s pit box. He said that they did have some engine problem but wanted to acknowledge that Gary was the dominate driver today. “He drove a perfect race,” He said. “I got up on the pit box to help Gary and ended up learning a few things from him.” He also wanted to congratulate the whole Margarettaville crew. “They did there homework and we didn’t,” We’ll be out to prove something at Chicago. We have a great team we just need to step up like these guy’s did today.”
