Race Highlights

It was a perfect day for racing and a perfect day for sophomore driver Doug Caldwell driver of the # 66 Goodwrench Chevy to achieve his first victory in the Nextel cup racing series. From the drop of the green to the waving of the checkered it was pure excitement. It was in many ways just pure frustration for some drivers and pure accomplishment for others. The difference was mostly how they each positioned themselves for the finish. The one thing Doug Caldwell did that no other driver accomplished was to be leading the pack at the finish line. Equally impressive was the finish of Todd Caldwell driver of the # 58 Clorox sponsored Monte Carlo SS by finishing second to his brother and teammate . Winning the Daytona 500 is no small feat and Doug Caldwell stepped up and answered the challenge well. Caldwell MotorSports should be really satisfied with the results from this race. Gary Caldwell driver of the # 82 Pepsi Max Chevy didn't fare so well. Gary had a strong car with plenty of speed but bad luck and a late caution relinquished him to a 35th place finish and put him 43rd in the standings because of a pre-race infraction that cost him 10 points.
